I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living for my club, my community, my country, and my world.

4h_mark2.jpg

The 4 H club emblem is a four leaf clover representing head, heart, hands, and health. Always green with white lettering.

There are over seven million 4H club members in the United States. The program was founded in the early 1900's making it one of the oldest clubs for boys and girls.  It is now found in over 80 countries worldwide.

The Woodville Trailbusters 4H Horse Club consists of an average of fifty members ranging from cloverbuds to senior members.  We meet every other Wednesday at Checkerberry farms in Woodville, a part of Hopkinton.

Members pride themselves in volunteering their resources to community service projects such as Baypath Humane Society; Breakneck Hill Cows; Adopt A Platoon/ sending packages overseas to soldiers; local food pantrys, Community Harvest project at Elmwood farm, Hopkinton.

We also participate in annual 4H events such as Hippology and Horse Bowl held in January; Visual Presentations on the club, county & state levels; the Middlesex 4H Fair in Westford held in August; annual project records and our yearly horse show, trailrides and fun days.  But most of all we learn many facts about the horses we love!

Club Enrollment
If you are returning to the Club in the Fall, you must complete an
enrollment form with Sue.

County Fair
Any parent staying overnight at the fair must get the auto make, model
and plate number to Sue ASAP, before Monday.  If you are not registered,
the vehicle can not stay overnight at the fair grounds.

Food Pantry
Before 8/20, each member of the club must bring in four items for the
food pantry -- one each of cleaning supply, health product, school
supply and food.

*Haunted Trail Ride*
If you're going to work on the Haunted Trail Ride, please tell Mrs.
Pierson.  We need to begin working on this.  Attached is information
about the haunted trail rides.  Members have been assigned to groups who
will help put together that section of the trail.  The  K&J document
shows what needs to be done and people should step up to the plate.

*Member/Barn Renewal*
If you plan on leaving the barn by 9/01/08, you need to let Sue know
whether you are also leaving the club.  The club year ends on 10/31/08.
All who are leaving are welcome to stay and participate in the haunted
trail ride and the fall fun day.  You may also stay in the club, if
you're leaving the barn.

*Fair Reminders*
For those going to the County Fair with a horse, you will need:
2 cross ties
water pail
grain pail (not the size of yellow grain pail)
hay net
butt chain/bar
6 eye hooks
6 double ended snaps
clean brush box and clean brushes
spare bridle
spare halter or safety parts for halter
two white saddle pads (one gets sweaty and need another)
two or more show shirts
two or more breeches/jodphurs
one show jacket
helmet/hardhat that is approved astm/fei
hair nets
rags
shiny boots - tall for those over 14 yrs, short or tall for 13 yrs and under
belt for breeches/jodphurs
stock tie or ratcatcher with pin for ALL english riders - no exceptions
this year.
Grain put in storage bag and labelled and then put in container that
holds all and is sealable and waterproof, those that share arrange who
gets what and help bag together on Wednesday or Thursday just before the
fair.

You must trim and save the horse's face, muzzle and legs and that shoes
are up to date.  Manes should be free flowing and neat or pulled. Fair
horses will be washed at 10am on Thursday.  The first load of horses
will go up around noon.   Horses not geared up and ready will not be
shipped.   The fitting and showmanship scores were disgraceful at our
show.  Let's have a little pride at the fair in being the best, this is
another sore subject that made me send email.

Everyone going to the fair should have their sleeping arrangements
made.  You may bring up chairs, snacks and drinks.  You must go up with
your horse, stay through closing ceremonies and go home when the horse
goes home.  The cost of trailering each horse is $75.  Please pay the
person who trailers your horse by Sunday when you come home.  If you
share a horse, you should split the trailering cost.  Also, you may not
be taking the same trailer home that you took up to the fair, so pay
attention.  Also, once you get home, you should help clean out the trailer.

If you're not staying overnight at the fair, please make sure you
volunteer to work shift and work one Monday night work night.  Enjoy
yourself and the fair!

I'll be redoing some photo albums but for now here are some new photos.

Cory developed a great new interactive website that will take the place of the yahoo website.  I will be closing the yahoo site down at the end of the month.  Meanwhile, keep checking our www.woodvilletrailbusters4hclub.org site as this is the place where all the news, events and photos will be placed for everyone even those not in our club to see. The new site Cory developed is just for you kids and parents to interact with each other if there is a question or a switch in jobs etc to be made.

Don't forget to sign up for the Discussion Board at
www.s6.invisionfree.com/The_Trailbusters

This is a good place to exchange ideas, chores, arrange riding, etc.

Also - don't forget the 4H website -- There's always good information on
it, too!
