THINGS YOU
LEARN WHEN YOU OWN A HORSE
1. People
who don't take care of their own horses will be the first ones to tell you how to care for yours.
2. You should
never buy a cheap girth!
3. A handsome
horse who's badly behaved will become a lot less attractive in about 15 minutes.
4. People
who think they have nothing more to learn about riding hit the ground the hardest.
5. Children
and ponies are natural allies and often have identical dispositions.
6. The richest
horse people most often look the poorest.
7. The closeness
of a horse is one of the sweetest smells in the world.
8. A solitary
ride through the woods is more beneficial then six months with the best psychiatrist.
9. The worse
a person rides the more likely they are going to blame it on the horse.
10. The best
thing about going to the barn first thing in the morning is that horses don't care how you look.
11. If a
dealer insists a horse is worth twice what he's asking he's usually worth half that much.
12. The best
way to appreciate how another person rides is to get on their horse, but it can also be a quick way to get hurt.
13. I can
recognize another horse person no matter what town, city, state, county or country I visit.
14. You can
never have too many hoof picks.
15. It is
not wise to argue with something that outweighs you by 1,000 pounds
16. I'd rather
have a horse with a perfect mind then a perfect head.
17. If you
think you have left the water on in the barn you have, if you think you have closed the pasture gate, you haven't.
18. When
someone asks you if you like their horse always say 'yes'.
19. The happiest
people I know own horses, dogs, cats and at least one deranged goat.
20. If you're
looking for the perfect horse you will never own one.
21. Owning
a horse can either make a marriage or break it.
22. I'd rather
lose my lipstick than my curb chain.
23. You shouldn't
talk about your first place ribbon to someone that came second.
24. If someone
says that horse has a little buck, it has a BIG buck.
25. If we
need rain, schedule a show.
26. I've
never warmed up to someone that didn't want a walk down to the stables.
27. A clean
stables and a sparkling horse are among life's great pleasures.
28. Even
free horses can be too expensive.
29. No matter
how badly behaved you are, your horse always gives you a second chance.
30. A more
expensive horse doesn't make a better one.
31. I will
never ever have an empty stable and I have accepted that fact.
32. Losing
a horse can break your heart, but it will have been worth it.
33. If you
can't imagine life without a horse... DON'T
I'm sure there is more news out there, and I'm sure more can take the poll quiz. For now here is a photo of some of the
new calves at the Bourdon's farm.

And We Were One With The Wind
He flicks his ear when the dog barks. He swishes his tail at the flies. He paws the ground
impatiently. He snorts, as if to say, Let's go!
I grab the reins in one hand. I lift my foot into the stirrup. I stand for a moment. I
swing my leg over his rump and into place.
We are ready to go.
Atop his back, I felt like I was on Mount Everest! But non of that mattered because
I was one with him,
He was one with me,
And We Were One With The Wind

| winning club competition |
On August 25th to 27th over 20 Woodville Trailbuster 4H members competed at the Middlesex County
4H Fair. 13 members and 9 horses competed in the 4H horse show. There were 10 girls competing in the junior division, 9 in
the senior division, 2 in the walk-trot division, and 2 lead line division. All the girls did an excellent job and had a huge
part in bringing home the gymkhana and english division reserve championships. Kathlyn Garvey, Grace Centola and Taylor Hayden
won the club team competition. The girls had to ride their horses at the walk, trot and canter in sync next to each other.
In addition to exhibiting in the horse show, some members also exhibited static entries. Natalie Centola and Carolyn Bernier
entered their eye-catching photography. Lizzie Kelley showed off her creative side in the craft and creative workshop departments.
Catie Kelley enthralled readers with her entries in the writing department. Grace Centola delighted the judges with her cooking
for the food department. Kathlyn Garvey wowed the judges with her number of entries in the food, sewing, drawing, craft, photography,
and writing departments. Leanne Gossels dazzled everyone with her exquisite writing that won her best individual exhibit,
top junior exhibitor, and top overall exhibitor in the writing department. Andrea Gossels entered her astounding photography
as well as her colorful writing that won her top senior exhibitor in the photography department.
The 4H fair usually marks the beginning of the end for the 4H year. As a club, the Woodville Trailbusters congratulate
all members on another successful year. A special congratulation to Grace Centola, Leanne Gossels and Kathlyn Garvey for qualifying
for and competing at the State 4H Horse Round-Up, and the Kathlyn Garvey who qualified for the National 4H Horse Round-Up.
Also to Carolyn Bernier and Kathlyn Garvey who competed at the State 4H Visual Presentation competition.
Though the 4H year is coming to a close, the year is far from over for the Woodville girls. Still to come they have a fun
day they are planning for November, and they are hosting the county awards night for the 2005-2006 4H year in January.
Congratulations to Jamie D. for taking 5th place in the apple pie contest at this years fair!
Congratulations to sisters Leanne and Andrea for their top Jr., top Sr., top exhibitor and best individual exhibit awards
in writing.
Congratulations to all the Woodville Trailbusters 4H participants that brought home the Stable Challenge award, English
reserve, gymkhana reserve and the Horse club team trophy, Great job 4Hers!!!

Four members of the Woodville Trailbusters 4H Club just attended the 2006 Regional Horse Show held at the Tri Valley
fairgrounds in Northampton. All placed in several of their classes. The group rode western for the entire weekend.
It was a long fun filled weekend. Saturdays classes were long. Fitting and Showmanship classes started at 8:00 AM and
went to 1:30 PM. By 7:30 PM we still had 19 classes to go. The western riding class was held at 11:30 PM and the last
class of the day? night? next morning? was held at 1:00 am Sunday morning. Sunday classes started bright and early again
and once again ran long. The highlight of the weekend we think was watching Ferris and rider litterally run on foot
nearly completely around the arena and then get to the bag by a foot. The other rider couldn't get her horse to lead
well and she was just about 20' away. Way to go Woodville!!!

Don't have a horse to show? Then show your model horses. There are classes for most anything. You can handmake
items or buy Breyer type gear. It's simple, it's easy, it's fun and you can usually find a show nearby. There are
tons of websites on Model Horse Show rules, clubs, how to's, supplies etc.

Check out this 4H horse club. They do a lot of Model Horse showing and there are photographs of their displays.
This is the club that wrote a letter campaign to the Breyer Model Horse company about the Abaco Barb horse. Well it
worked and Breyer came out with the Abaco Barb horse Cappella and donated some of the proceeds to saving this horse.
They have checked out our website and we are now exchanging links with this 4H club.
4H Dish with your Daughter fun night was held at Let's Dish, Hopkinton, MA
